The Raheem Sterling Foundation is proud to announce its full support for a vital initiative led by Yanco in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC), aimed at protecting vulnerable communities in Jamaica from the increased threat of mosquito-borne diseases following the recent hurricane.
As climate-related disasters impact the island, the prevalence of vector-borne illnesses, such as dengue, malaria, and chikungunya, has escalated. Recent data from Jamaica’s Ministry of Health highlights an alarming rise in cases, with dengue fever spreading rapidly, particularly among children in low-income communities. The hurricane’s aftermath, with stagnant water providing breeding grounds for mosquitoes, has further intensified the risk.
This project, supported by Yanco’s innovative and affordable insecticide products – like their mosquito paper designed to combat these deadly diseases – is an urgent intervention. These mosquito-borne illnesses continue to threaten the health, development, and future of Jamaica’s younger generations, particularly in impoverished regions.
Yanco’s launch of the “Rambo” branded product in Jamaica comes at a critical moment, bolstered by a proposed donation aimed at protecting the most vulnerable populations. This initiative is being realised with the logistical support of the British High Commission in Kingston, Tradecom International, Massy Distribution, and the Jamaican embassy.
In a message of support, Raheem Sterling said:
“As someone born in Jamaica, I feel a deep connection to the people and communities affected by this crisis. The Raheem Sterling Foundation is committed to raising awareness and providing support for initiatives that protect and empower vulnerable populations. This collaboration with Yanco and the International Federation Red Cross is a powerful opportunity to save lives and improve the health of those most in need. I encourage everyone to support these efforts and join the fight against mosquito-borne diseases.”
The Raheem Sterling Foundation will leverage its platforms to help raise awareness and mobilise support for this crucial initiative, ensuring that communities in Jamaica and beyond are equipped to combat the devastating impact of these preventable diseases.
